Flexor or anterior compartment muscles of Arm/Medial and lateral intermuscular septum/Deltopectoral groove/Deltoid muscle
The medial intermuscular septum of the arm blends with the tendon of coracobrachialis and is continuous with the fascia of teres major on its lateral aspect. It is perforated by the ulnar nerve and the superior and inferior ulnar collateral arteries.
It can be directly compressed in distal humeral fractures. The radial nerve perforates the lateral intermuscular septum as it follows the spiral groove on the humerus to run anteriorly and distally. At the level of the radial head, it divides into its deep and superficial branches.
The main indications for a medial approach to the distal humerus are: Open fixation of medial epicondylar fractures; Visualization of the medial epicondyle for safe K-wire insertion when using bilateral crossed K-wiring; Ulnar nerve exploration
8 Μαΐ 2012 · The paratricipital approach involves elevating the triceps off the lateral and medial intermuscular septae. The triceps slide utilizes the posterior antebrachial cutaneous nerve to identify the radial nerve and then elevates the tricep from lateral to medial.
