It is best seen in proximal and posterior views. Lateral to the head is the greater tuberosity, whereas the lesser tuberosity lies medially. Anteriorly between the tuberosities is the deep bicipital groove, along which passes the tendon of the biceps brachii muscle.

The lateral epicondyle is located on the lateral part of distal extremity of the humerus, for attachment of extensor muscles of the carpus and digits.
