That's called factory resetting which is what you asked about.

I think you have to get the packages manually and save them somewhere. I think the best you can do is install the latest xp service pack and visual studio service packs and then use windows updates to grab the updates released since then. I think you'll need xp service pack 2 and xp service pack 3. You could grab each hotfix/update separately ...

10 Ιουν 2015 · Windows Update will not work with XP until you have manually installed sp3. You must have installed either sp1 or sp2 before you can install sp3. Thus, depending on what your "recovery CDs" install, you will have to manually download and install some service pack(s).
