Lawrencium (Lr), synthetic chemical element, the 14th member of the actinoid series of the periodic table, atomic number 103. Not occurring in nature, lawrencium (probably as the isotope lawrencium-257) was first produced (1961) by chemists Albert Ghiorso, T. Sikkeland, A.E. Larsh, and R.M. Latimer.
Lawrencium has 10 isotopes with known half-lives and mass numbers in the range of 253 to 262. It has no naturally occurring isotopes. 262 Lr is the longest-lived isotope with a half-life of 216 min followed by 261 Lr with a half-life of 39 min and 260 Lr with a half-life of 180 s.
Lawrencium is the eleventh transuranic element to be discovered. It is the last member of the actinide series. The expected density of lawrencium is around 16.6 g/cm 3 and is considered a heavy metal. Lawrencium is expected to be a volatile element and resembles lead in its volatility.
