Lawrencium is a synthetic chemical element; it has symbol Lr (formerly Lw) and atomic number 103. It is named after Ernest Lawrence, inventor of the cyclotron, a device that was used to discover many artificial radioactive elements.
This is only an illustration, not lawrencium itself. Lawrencium can only be made in very small amounts and emits strong radiation. Lawrencium is produced for example by bombarding californium with boron or americium with oxygen. The most stable isotope has a half-life of 11 hours.
