Every pregnancy starts out with a 3-5% chance of having a birth defect. This is called the background risk. Lead exposure in pregnancy has not been associated with an increased chance of physical birth defects. Does having lead exposure increase the chance of other pregnancy-related problems?
1 Απρ 2023 · Studies suggest that gestational exposure to lead (Pb) is related to spontaneous abortions, preterm birth, lower infant birth weight and length, and neurological dysfunctions. However, the evidence about its effects during pregnancy exposure on fetal and child development is still poor.
Lead represents a significant environmental risk for pregnant women and their offspring. Exposure to high environmental levels of lead may be associated with the preterm ruptures of foetal membranes, spontaneous abortions and preterm births (Angell et al., 1982).
23 Οκτ 2023 · In this cohort study, our findings indicate that prenatal exposure to even low levels of Pb was associated with increased CDD risk in children, especially in those with a high genetic risk. Prenatal Pb exposure and genetic background may jointly contribute to an increased risk of CDD for children.
