The most commonly employed levels of amputation are the phalangeal and transmetatarsal, each of which can be single or multiple, and are sometimes performed in combination. Less common are amputations performed through the midfoot (Chopart and Lisfranc), and hindfoot (Syme) (Fig. 1).

Toe Amputation: What to Expect at Home. Your Recovery. You had amputation surgery to remove one or more of your toes. For most people, pain improves within a week after surgery. You may have stitches or sutures. The doctor will probably take these out about 10 days after the surgery.
