10 Οκτ 2024 · The left ventricle hypertrophies in response to pressure overload secondary to conditions such as aortic stenosis and hypertension. This results in increased R wave amplitude in the left-sided ECG leads (I, aVL and V4-6) and increased S wave depth in the right-sided leads (III, aVR, V1-3)

The most common causes of left ventricular hypertrophy are aortic stenosis, aortic regurgitation, hypertension, cardiomyopathy and coarctation of the aorta. There are several ECG indexes, which generally have high diagnostic specificity but low sensitivity.
ñ On the echocardiogram of the “athlete’s heart” the left ventricular end-diastolic diameter is usually >55 mm, while in HCM patients it is <45 mm. ñ On mitral Doppler in HCM the ratio of early (E wave) to atrial (A wave) flow is usually <1.
The sensitivity of the ECG for detecting LVH in children is relatively low when LVM+ is taken as the LVH definition (Table 3). The best single parameter is (SV3R + RV7), with a sensitivity of 25.3% at 95% specificity. Notably, SV3R, RV7, and (SV3R + RV7) perform better than SV1, RV6, and (SV1 + RV6), respectively.
19 Φεβ 2009 · Left ventricular hypertrophy commonly occurs in heart diseases that also cause intraventricular conduction defects or delays (IVCDs). As both LVH and IVCDs alter QRS patterns, the existence of an IVCD may impact the accuracy of ECG criteria for LVH.
3 Νοε 2022 · Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) refers to an increase in the size of myocardial fibers in the main cardiac pumping chamber. Such hypertrophy is usually the response to a chronic pressure or volume load. The two most common pressure overload states are systemic hypertension and aortic stenosis.
