In God, Justice, and Society, Jonathan Burnside has produced an examination of the significance, structure, substance and implications of Biblical law which is impressive in its scope, concision and depth. He manages to do so in a manner which is both accessible and engaging.
The biblical concept of righteousness and law is based on the conviction that God is the righteous judge whose judges the earth with his impartiality and bestows his own righteousness to those who live in accordance with his will and commandments.
By looking at biblical law in ways that are meaningful in terms of today’s legal system, at least today’s Anglo-American legal system, the book tries to locate the subject of biblical law within a contemporary cultural landscape.
