A good example can be found on the stela containing the laws of Hammurabi. At its top, the god Shamash is depicted giving Hammurabi the authority to rule; but the text makes it clear that the laws originate with the king himself. The situation is different in biblical law.

31 Αυγ 2015 · Paul is not exactly using irony, but we could put the word in quotation marks (“law”) in these verses: Rom. 8:2; 1 Cor. 9:21; Gal. 6:2, for he is transforming the word law to mean a new kind of life of obedience that comes from the Spirit living in us daily and powerfully.
