We found significant weaknesses in both the methods that psychologists use to address legal issues and the way courts assess those methods.

Shocked at miscarriages of justice and looking to understand offender, investigator, and justice-system player behavior, society is looking to legal psychology for both explanations and solutions. This is what we wanted our issue of Translational Issues in Psychological Science to address.
Objective: We conducted a meta-analysis to examine whether numeric decision-making in law is susceptible to the effect of (possibly arbitrary) values present in the decision contexts (anchoring effect) and to investigate which factors might moderate this effect.
The articles that follow are focused on topics about which psychology has made substantial contributions to policy and/or law, as well as on topics where psychological scientists and legal scholars have so far failed to shape policy and practice, despite solid relevant research.
Law of Psychology. Some legal (e.g., Perlin, 1985) and psychological (e.g., Wulach, 1998) scholars study and write about the law affecting the practice and science of psychology (aka law of psychology).
