I personally find LDCad one of the most powerful lego CAD programs out there. I tried it because I couldn't use Bricklink's Stud.io in Linux, and looking for alternatives I found a thread where people were recommending it. LDCad is available for Windows and Linux.

2 Ιουλ 2019 · There are a few software for designing digital models using LEGO bricks. Even though their purpose is the same, like all similar software, their features and interfaces are different. Today, we will take a look at some of them and try to decide which is the best LEGO design software.
LDD is no longer supported by LEGO but it still is the better program and works great if you are on Windows. There is also an active community on Eurobricks to add new parts to LDD and it has a bigger parts library than Studio.
What is currently the best program for digital Lego building? I like LDD, but it hasn't been updated in years and lacks many pieces, especially the newer ones. I know of Bricklink Studio, but it seems to be a bit worse at collision detection, and a bit less intuitive.

5 Νοε 2017 · LEGO Digital Designer or LDD for short is directly affiliated with The LEGO Group. This used to be the only design software out there, and an old feature was that you could order you model, and the bricks would be delivered to you.
