Monarda citriodora (Lemon Bee Balm) is a short-lived perennial, often grown as an annual or biennial, boasting showy clusters of scented, two-lipped, tubular, lavender to pink flowers resting upon white or lavender bracts.
Features. Lemon mint produces leaves with a distinct lemon-mint flavor and fragrance. Snip a few fresh leaves and add them iced tea, or use dried leaves to brew your own homemade herbal tea. The leaves can also be used to add a zesty flavor to salads, jellies or lamb dishes.
The mint name is misleading since it does not have a refreshing minty taste (or much of a lemon taste for that matter) but has a much stronger, muskier, thyme/oregano flavor better suited to savory meals than summery beverages.
