Burdette received votes in each of the 15 years he was eligible, peaking in 1984 at 24.1 percent. In 1998 he was inducted to the Florida Sports Hall of Fame and in 2001 was elected to the Braves Hall of Fame. Burdette died on February 6, 2007, in Winter Garden, Florida, after battling lung cancer.
