A Lexile reader measure describes a student’s reading ability. Connecting students with books in their Lexile range – 100L below to 50L above their reported Lexile measure – provides an ideal level of reading challenge. Sometimes a student’s Lexile measure can vary from test to test.
The Lexile Framework for Reading is a proven way to measure an English language learner’s reading level and the difficulty of text. A Lexile measure is a number followed by an “L” (for Lexile measure). There are two Lexile measures – a learner measure and a text measure.
Lexile measures provide educators with an interpretive — not prescriptive — tool for measuring student growth and predicting future success. There are two Lexile measures: the Lexile student measure and the Lexile text measure.
The Lexile Framework can produce two measures, one for English reading performance and another for text difficulty. The Lexile scale is like a thermometer from below 0L for beginner levels to above 2000L for advanced levels. The Lexile measure is shown as a number with an “L” after it.
