Lexiscan is a prescription drug given through an IV line that increases blood flow through the arteries of the heart during a cardiac nuclear stress test. Lexiscan is given to patients when they are unable to exercise adequately for a stress test.
For Females: If there is a chance you could be pregnant or are trying to become pregnant, you should not have Cardiolite material. Therefore, you should not have the Cardiolite test done.
PREP INSTRUCTIONS FOR STRESS TESTING 1. NO CAFFEINE OR DECAF PRODUCTS 12 hours prior to the test. No coffee, no decaf, no chocolate, no migraine medicine (Excedrin), colas, tea, mountain dew, etc. 2. NOTHING TO EAT OR DRINK 4-6 HOURS PRIOR TO THE TEST. (If walking on treadmill=4hrs, Lexiscan=6hrs) 3.
The lexiscan stress test is useful to determine: • If there is adequate blood flow to your heart during increasing levels of activity • Extent of a coronary artery blockage • Prognosis of patients who have suffered a heart attack • Effectiveness of cardiac procedures done to improve circulation in coronary arteries
