If this sort of living history excites you, don't pass up the Newberry. Admission is free. In addition to its exhibitions, the Newberry Library is open to use by the public, as long as you follow rules to protect the collection and its patrons.
The Newberry will be closed Thursday, November 28 through Saturday, November 30 in observance of Thanksgiving. Exhibition galleries will close at 5pm on Wednesday, November 27. The Newberry's collections, programs, and exhibitions have been free and open to all since 1887.
All campus libraries will close for a portion of Thanksgiving week. See below for specific hours. Internal book returns will be closed while library buildings are closed; external book returns are available on the west side of Eckhart Hall and outside the Social Work Library.
Free tours of the impressive building take place at 3pm Thursday and 10:30am Saturday. The building's upper floors house the library itself (open 9am to 5pm Tuesday to Friday, and to 1pm Saturday), stacked with books, maps, photographs and other humanities-related materials.
