If you want to photograph only an expanse of sky and a lightning bolt, no worries. But, if you want to make your photograph stand out as an artistic piece capturing one of nature's most dynamic and dramatic forces, think about the entire photograph, not just the lightning.
But lightning – I love lightning. And in this article, I’m going to share my hard-earned advice for capturing breathtaking lightning photos, including gear recommendations, camera settings, finding storms, and more. Before I dive in, however, I want to emphasize the importance of safety.
Camera with Manual Controls: Of course, the first thing you’ll need to capture these images is a quality camera body. A mirrorless or DSLR camera with manual exposure settings, including shutter speed, aperture, and ISO, will provide the flexibility and control needed for capturing images of lightning.
