A flexion deformity of the knee is the inability to fully straighten or extend the knee, also known as flexion contracture. Normal active range of motion (AROM) of the knee is 0° extension and 140° flexion. An accurate definition of this would be limited knee extension range, both actively and passively.
Limited knee range of motion can occur from postoperative complications following knee surgery, such as arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, or joint replacement. Factors contributing to restricted motion include scar tissue formation, joint contractures, or inadequate rehabilitation.
Learn what knee range of motion (ROM) is, how to measure it and how to improve it if it is limited. Find out the normal values for knee flexion, extension, rotation and functional activities.
20 Σεπ 2019 · A reduction in a normal range of motion in any of the joints is known as limited range of motion. Joint range of motion naturally declines as you age, but it can also occur with a number of...
16 Αυγ 2023 · Knee flexion is the degree to which you can bend your knee. Knowing your knee flexion limit can help you to assess your range of motion, which may be helpful if you're recovering from an injury or surgery.
30 Οκτ 2023 · Being a hinge joint, the main movements in the knee joint are flexion and extension of the knee in the sagittal plane. It also allows limited medial rotation in a flexed position and in the last stage of extension, as well as lateral rotation when “unlocking” and flexing the knee.
Knee Flexion. For sustained knee flexion from approximately 10° – 120°, begin with the patient in prone with the knee in maximum obtainable active flexion. A pillow can be placed under the patient's stomach, a small towel around the ankle, and a towel around the shoulders for comfort.
