19 Ιουν 2021 · The patients with moderate, severe, and critical COVID-19 infections experienced significantly more hair shedding than those with asymptomatic and mild diseases. Only 2 patients with mild COVID-19 disease reported nail abnormalities (chromonychia and brittle nails).
Affection of the nail by COVID‐19 has only recently been reported. The nail organ can be affected by SARS‐CoV‐2 infection in a number of ways. Some of these symptoms are indicators of a mild course like COVID‐toe or‐finger, while others are a red flag for a serious course like acro‐ulcerative lesions.

29 Σεπ 2021 · Nail plate discoloration has been reported as a delayed response several weeks after COVID-19 diagnosis in elderly patients. Non-blanchable transverse leukonychia has also been reported, and may persist following severe damage to the nail matrix.
We provide a narrative review on COVID-19 manifestation on the nail organ and add symptoms induced by personal protective measures and SARS-CoV-2 vaccination. Available treatment options are discussed.

They’re either a sign that the infection stressed your body, or they could be a rare symptom of the infection itself, depending on your symptoms. COVID nails are not an actual medical diagnosis, but they’re a possible after-effect of the disease.
