THE RITE OF CONFIRMATION. LITURGICAL GUIDELINES. The following pages present some directives and helpful information for those responsible for the planning of a parish celebration of the Rite of Confirmation. Thorough preparation for both the candidates and the rite itself is essential.
Adult catechumens, who are to be confirmed immediately after baptism, have the help of the Christian community and, in particular, the formation which is given to them during the catechumenate, catechesis, and common liturgical celebrations. receive the fullness of Christian Initiation in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Each candidate has been well instructed and is accompanied by a sponsor. Each Pastor presents his candidates as a parish group.
A form entitled Confirmation within Mass is included with this booklet. It can also be downloaded from the diocesan website, or contact the Office of Worship to have a copy faxed or mailed to you. Complete the form and return via email, fax, or mail to the Office of Worship no less than three weeks before the date of Confirmation.
Ritual Mass for Confirmation. If you see V1, V2, V3, next to MASS, a Ritual Mass is permitted. (A “Ritual Mass” is one in which a “rite” occurs.) On days when Ritual Masses are permitted, the Ritual Mass for Confirmation with its proper readings may be celebrated (Ceremonial for Bishops, 459).
