THE RITE OF CONFIRMATION. LITURGICAL GUIDELINES. The following pages present some directives and helpful information for those responsible for the planning of a parish celebration of the Rite of Confirmation. Thorough preparation for both the candidates and the rite itself is essential.
The liturgy of the word is celebrated in the ordinary way. The readings may be taken in whole or in part from the Mass of the day or from the texts for Confirmation in the Lectionary for Mass (nos. 764‐768) and listed below (see Appendix).

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION. PRESENTATION OF THE CANDIDATES. After the Gospel the bishop, ministers and congregation are seated. Bishop receives miter. The dean or other designated pastor should begin the presentations in these or similar words:
The Mass of the Rite of Confirmation within Mass may be used at all celebrations of Confirmation except on the Sundays of Advent and Lent; and Sundays of Easter, Solemnities, Ash Wednesday, and Holy Week. In the exceptional cases, the readings and prayers of the liturgy for that day are to be used.
Ritual Mass for Confirmation. If you see V1, V2, V3, next to MASS, a Ritual Mass is permitted. (A “Ritual Mass” is one in which a “rite” occurs.) On days when Ritual Masses are permitted, the Ritual Mass for Confirmation with its proper readings may be celebrated (Ceremonial for Bishops, 459).
