Load index. The load index can be found on the sidewall. It corresponds to the maximum load the tyre can handle. Each tyre must have a load capacity equal or superior to half the weight borne by the axle on which it is mounted. .
The easiest way to tell the difference between the two is that the load index is a two- or three-digit number, while the speed index is a single letter. In the example above, the load index is 87, while the speed index is S (112MPH).
