Chapter 1 – Introduction to Revelation. In Chapter 1, John, the beloved apostle, receives a divine call. He hears the voice of Jesus Christ, commanding him to pen down what he sees and send it to the seven churches in Asia. It’s a captivating start!
Revelation 1:1. The revelation of Jesus Christ.—This may mean, “belonging to, or proceeding from, Jesus Christ,” or it may be the revelation concerning Jesus Christ; i.e., the partial unfolding of what He, as the living one, is doing, and will do, with His Church in the world.
David Guzik commentary on Revelation 1 begins with an opening description of the return of Jesus, and the vision That John had of Jesus.
This book, the Revelation, begins and ends with a prediction of the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. We should set ourselves to meditate frequently upon the second coming of Christ, and keep it in the eye of our faith and expectation.
Revelation 1:1. The book opens with the title or inscription of the book itself, and an account of the scope and design of it, namely, to foretel things which should shortly begin to be fulfilled, and should succeed in their due season and order till all were accomplished.
CHAPTER I. THE PROLOGUE. Revelation 1:1-20 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show unto His servants, even the things which must shortly come to pass: and He sent and signified it through His angel unto His servant John; who bare witness of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, even of all things that he saw.
In the first chapter of Revelation we read that Jesus appears to the apostle John, who was banished by Rome to the Island of Patmos because of his faith. Jesus tells John to write about what he saw, about the present, and about what will take place in the future.
