Purpose: The varus stress test shows a lateral joint line gap. Performance: A varus stress test is performed by stabilizing the femur and palpating the lateral joint line. The other hand provides a varus stress to the ankle. The test is performed at 0° and 20-30°, so the knee joint is in the closed packed position.
ALD involve lateral (valgus) or medial (varus) deviation relative to the long axis of the bone in the frontal plane. They are named by the joint involved and the direction of the deformity, e.g. carpus valgus (Figure 1). There is often also a degree of rotational deformity involved. The most

The most common angular limb deviation seen in the foal include carpal or tarsal valgus and fetlock varus. Angular limb deformities (ALDs) or deviations are common in young foals, with most deviations able to self-correct with minimal intervention, including modifications in exercise.
The most common location of valgus angular limb deformities is the carpus and tarsus while varus deformities are most often seen at the fetlock and to a lesser extent at the carpus.
