Lossy and Lossless Image Compression¶ When we compress a file, we do this because we want to temporarily make it smaller (like for sending over email), or we want to permanently make it smaller (like for showing images on the internet). Lossless compression techniques are for when we want to temporarily reduce information. As the name implies ...
Lossless compression uses an algorithm to shrink the image without losing any important data. Essentially, it rewrites the file to make it more efficient - resulting in a smaller storage or transfer size.
26 Ιουλ 2018 · Kozhemiakin et al. [199] indicated that while remote sensing images are widely compressed using lossless compression to preserve the image quality, small compression ratio is achieved and suggested lossy image compression technique based on discrete cosine transform.
There are two types of lossless image compression methods: learning and non-learning techniques. Portable network graphics (PNG), JPEG 2000, WebP, and the Free Lossless Image Format (FLIF) are the most popular techniques in the non-learning category. On the other hand, there are many learning-based techniques, such as L3C, IDF, SReC, etc. [9-10].
11 Οκτ 2019 · This paper presents a detailed analysis of run-length, entropy and dictionary based lossless image compression algorithms with a common numeric example for a clear comparison and measures the performance of the state-of-the-art techniques.
1 Ιαν 2022 · This article compares the most popular state-of-the-art lossless image compression techniques, and the methods are evaluated based on the bits per pixel or compression ratio.
