14 Μαρ 2024 · For dogs, the two blood tests for diagnosing Lyme disease are called the C6 Test and Quant C6 test. Veterinarians perform both. The C6 test detects antibodies against a protein called “C6.”
Screening for Bb antibodies allows: (1) follow‐up proteinuria screening for all seropositive dogs and early intervention for possible Lyme nephritis (see treatment), (2) follow‐up minimal data base including CBC and serum biochemistry to identify cytopenias and kidney disease associated with tick and wildlife exposure, (3) identification of ...
14 Απρ 2023 · The recommended treatment for Lyme borreliosis in dogs is a 4-week course of doxycycline. Polyarthritis resulting from Lyme borreliosis is expected to respond rapidly to treatment with doxycycline; if rapid improvement is not noted, other causes of polyarthropathy should be considered.
Diagnosing Borrelia as the trigger can be difficult, but prolonged treatment with antibiotics and, in some cases, descending immunosuppressive steroids, will lead to improvement in most cases. Protein-losing nephropathy (PLN) has been documented in dogs with spontaneous Borrelia infection.
Transmission. While Bb can be transmitted by urine, milk, and blood, the most common transmission is likely via tick infestation by hard-shell deer ticks (e.g., Ixodes scapularis or other related Ixodes species). Ixodes ticks have a 2-year life cycle,3,4 and hatch in the spring (into larvae).
Lyme Multiplex Assay testing allows a better definition of the dog’s current infection status and assists in determining treatment options and prognosis. The infection status can also be determined in most vaccinated dogs.
There are several common tests used to screen for Lyme disease (SNAP 4DX PLUS™ or Accuplex ™4). These tests can detect antibodies of Borrelia exposure as early as three to five weeks after a dog has been bitten by an infected tick (even before the dog shows signs of illness).
