Treatment for Lyme Disease in Dogs. The antibiotics most frequently used to treat Lyme disease in dogs are doxycycline and minocycline, at a dosage of 10 mg/kg PO q12h to q24h for 30 days.
There are several common tests used to screen for Lyme disease (SNAP 4DX PLUS™ or Accuplex ™4). These tests can detect antibodies of Borrelia exposure as early as three to five weeks after a dog has been bitten by an infected tick (even before the dog shows signs of illness).
Lyme disease is treated with antibiotics, most commonly doxycycline, for four weeks. Pain medications should also be given to help with joint discomfort. Asymptomatic dogs generally only require monitoring by you and your veterinarian, which may involve routine urine checks.
