The Yukon River is a major watercourse of northwestern North America. From its source in British Columbia, it flows through Canada's territory of Yukon (itself named after the river). The lower half of the river continues westward through the U.S. state of Alaska.

23 Οκτ 2024 · Yukon River, major North American river that flows through the central Yukon territory of northwestern Canada and the central region of the U.S. state of Alaska. It measures 1,980 miles (3,190 km) from the headwaters of the McNeil River (a tributary of the Nisutlin River).
13 Αυγ 2021 · The Yukon River proper, therefore, starts at the northern end of the Marsh Lake, just to the south of the city of Whitehorse in the Canadian Territory of Yukon. The lower half of the river flows in the westward direction through the central portion of the US State of Alaska.

The 1:500,000-scale geologic map of the Lower Yukon River region covers a broad area in southwest Alaska that borders the Bering Sea and Norton Sound and includes the delta of the Yukon River (fig. 1).
Beginning as trickles from Llewellynn glacier in British Columbia, the Yukon River runs north through the Yukon Territory and then east and southward through Alaska for a total of approximately 3200 km to its confluence with the Bering Sea. Two-thirds of the Yukon River watershed is within Alaska.
