Lugol's iodine solution is used to identify and determine the extent of squamous cell cancer, as lesions with low levels of glycogen (i.e. tumor cells) do not absorb the contrast material. Other stains which are used include methylene blue, acetic acid, and indigo carmine (see Ch. 2.4).
Visual inspection with Lugol’s iodine (VILI): Evidence to date. Slide overview: This presentation provides a summary of the latest evidence, as of 2003, on visual inspection with Lugol’s iodine (VILI) as a test for cervical cancer.
30 Οκτ 2020 · Sankaranarayanan et al., (2013) investigated diagnostic accuracy of acetic acid 4% (VIA) and Lugol’s iodine (VILI) in cervical cancer screening for 4,444 women in India. Results showed that staining methods had a relatively high sensitivity, 88.6% (VIA) and 87.2% (VILI), and specificity, 78% (VIA) and 84.7% (VILI).
17 Οκτ 2024 · Lugol’s solution and other preparations containing iodide have for almost a century been used as an adjuvant treatment in patients with Graves’ disease planned for thyroidectomy. Iodide has been shown to decrease thyroid hormone levels and reduce blood flow within the thyroid gland.
Lugol’s iodine chromoendoscopy (LCE) uses Lugol’s solution, a solution of iodine and potassium iodide which stains alpha-1,4 glucans in glycogen, turning normal squamous epithelium dark brown, while leaving squamous cell dysplasia and carcinoma unstained. 7 LCE has been studied to target histologic sampling for diagnosis of ESCC and squamous dys...
24 Σεπ 2013 · This study is designed as a prospective, multicentre, randomised controlled trial to assess the effectiveness of Lugol’s iodine in assisting excision of moderate dysplasia, severe dysplasia and carcinoma in situ at mucosal resection margins of oral and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
