20 Δεκ 2015 · Her response to her miraculous pregnancy emphasizes that God’s grace has reversed her social status: “This is what the Lord has done for me when he looked favorably on me and took away the disgrace I have endured among my people” (Luke 1:25).
Luke 1:39-45. Mary arose in those days — That is, soon after the time that she had received the extraordinary message mentioned above; and went into the hill-country — Where Elisabeth dwelt, although it was at least seventy miles distant from Nazareth.

19 Δεκ 2021 · God looks upon her lowliness as God’s servant (or better, her humiliation as God’s slave) and calls her blessed (verse 48). But then quickly Mary’s prophetic announcement of salvation extends beyond an individualistic to a cultural, systemic concern.
2. (Luke 1:42-45) Elizabeth’s blessing to Mary. Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
The honour that Elizabeth gave to Mary at their meeting was symbolic of the honour that John would give to Jesus (Luke 1:39-45). Mary’s song of praise reflects her total submission and deep gratitude to God for what he was doing through her.
13 Δεκ 2021 · After Mary gives her big “YES” to God’s plan for the salvation of the world, past, present and future, Elizabeth speaks of her blessedness. Note: I’m choosing to not include the Magnificat (verses 46-55) in this cycle’s selection, but if you were hoping to preach from there this year, not to fear!
