29 Αυγ 2021 · In Luke 8:26-39 we read of a man who was possessed by demons, the servants of the devil. Can people be demon-possessed today? Sceptics deny the existence of the devil but the Scriptures teach he exists and is active. The devil who is Satan, ruined the lives of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden.
How does Luke make clear that this demon-possession is ‘worse’ than 4:33-35? How might the man be helped by watching what happened to the pigs? Explain the reaction of ‘all the people’ (in 34-37).

So, Jesus set the demoniac free. He permits the demons to enter a herd of pigs. The pigs run and plummet off the cliff. The pigs’ “suicide” shows how the evil one seeks to destroy God’s good creation. Jesus now gives himself to each of us as our liberator. It seems as if we’re always on the brink like a broken record stuck on the same musical line. We continue to run endlessly on the treadmill of terror.
Ever since the fall into sin, clothes are a means to cover shame; but this man wants nothing to do with them and is trapped in a life of shame. He is alive, but he is driven to live in the tombs, perhaps dwelling in a cave among other caves that are used for the internment of remains.
