12 Μαρ 2019 · Pregnancy outcomes in patients with lupus have improved considerably over time. Yet, lupus continues to present increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes and pregnancy increases the risk of lupus flares.
Results Among the 40 million delivery-related admissions, 51 161 patients were reported to have SLE. Patients with SLE had a higher risk of fetal morbidity, including IUGR (8.0% vs 2.7%) and pre-term delivery (14.5% vs 7.3%), than patients without SLE.

Risk factors for preterm birth in general include active lupus, high dose prednisone, and renal disease. Maternal hypertension in the second trimester is a good predictor. Overzealous treatment of maternal blood pressure could reduce placental blood flow, and is not recommended.
