License Renewals. Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) and Psychiatric Technicians (PTs) are required to renew their license every two years. Satisfactory completion of continuing education (CE) is required for an "active" license in addition to a social security number.
The system allows the user to search by name or license number, and provides the name, license number, expiration date, county of residence and license status, as well as any post-licensure certification such as blood withdrawal or intravenous therapy.

Requirements for vocational nurse licensure are specified in the Vocational Nursing Practice Act. There are five (5) methods by which one may qualify for the licensure examination. Each method is designed to provide an individual access into the job market as an entry-level practitioner.
The California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) has an intradepartmental contract with the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) to provide license verification on the DCA License Search website and the actual operation thereof.
The California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (Board) protects the consumer from unprofessional and unsafe licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) and psychiatric technicians (PTs).
