Ma Li was a beautiful promising professional ballerina when she lost her right arm in a car accident in 1996. She was only 19. Five years later in 2001, she was invited to compete at the 5th national special performing art competition for handicaps and won the gold medal.
Ma Li and Tao Xiaowei, Chinese dancers who gained fame after their performance in the 2007 China's National Dance Competition, have moved people around the world to tears. Their expressive ballet, titled "Hand in Hand," showcased their immense talent despite their physical limitations.
In 2002, a handsome young man – Tao Li – fell madly in love with her. She ran away from him for fear of being hurt again. After she disappeared in Beijing, Tao searched everywhere for her despite his parents’ strong objection and ridicule. He finally found her dancing in a bar.
In this amazing performance Ma Li dances without arm and Zhai Xiaowei dances without leg. Watching the dance viewers feel the connection between these two dancers supporting each other after their own losses.
