This is a list of school districts in Iowa, sorted by Area Education Agencies (AEA). Districts are listed by their official names, though several schools use "Schools" in their name or website rather than "Community School District". As of July 2020, this list has not been expanded to include former school districts.
So, let’s fast forward to today: we have 3 public one-room schools operating up in northern Iowa; Wapsie Valley and Jessen operate public, one-room schools for Amish children. But, non-Amish children could go to those schools.

The Des Moines Independent Community School District (The Des Moines Public Schools, or DMPS) is the largest public school district in Iowa. It is accredited by the North Central Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges and the Iowa Department of Education.
