Our current upgrade ideas are: AMD RX 550; 256 GB SATA SSD (Windows and macOS split per 128GB) + 1-2 TB SATA HDD (possibly split into a few partitions for software+games or something). In the future: A better Intel Xeon (not sure on which model) that would prevent any possible bottlenecks; Slightly more RAM?
I agree, got my 3,1 for $300 a year or so ago and added some cheap upgrades. Well worth the money and will last me for another few years at least. Eight core 2.8, 24gb ram, Radeon 7950 3gb, 1tb...
1 Οκτ 2021 · There's a large number of external storage upgrades for the Mac Pro 2013, from USB 2.0/3.0 to ThunderBolt 2.0, and listing them all would be an exercise in futility. What's important to understand is that there are many multi-drive enclosures, spanning everything from RAID to multiple SSDs.
So yesterday my old graphics card (MSI R9 280X) died and now I am forced to look for a new card for my old early 2008 MP. Since the old card struggled with some newer games and sometimes even spiked over the 300W max power limit of the Mac, I would like to get a more powerful card.
I've been desperate for something like this, as the Mac Pro 3,1 is such a niche, making it much harder to find information regarding upgrades. I am also upgrading my MP 3,1 with Catalina , via the patcher from dosdude1 , plus an an AMD RX580 8GB GPU from Sapphire (no PixlasMod needed).
15 Ιουλ 2020 · This takes your Mac Pro 3,1 to 5,1 up to date with modern I/O courtesy of an add-on card it was never intended to be able to use natively and gives you so many options you never could have had before. The enduring power of these old 3,1 to 5,1 cMPs will never cease to disappoint.
