The hotel we are thinking of is right across Main street from where Shepler's drops off. Do the porters automatically take the luggage to your hotel or since we'd be so close and only have one suitcase, could we just walk it across the street ourselves.
Our island dock porters will meet your ferry and transport your luggage to the hotel. They will assist with directions to the hotel and ensure your belongings are in your room. Dock porters accept gratuities. Pellston International Airport (airport code PLN) is the nearest large airport to Mackinac Island.
Some hotels will send tags when you make your reservations so you can tag your bags before you board. When the ferry reaches the dock, the crew will unload your bags into each hotel's holding area and a porter (or two) will transport it to the hotel.

Upon arrival to Mackinac Island, dock porters are available to assist you with your luggage. Sitting room and TV, Pool Table and Games are also available for our guests. On Main Street, our elegant hotel on Mackinac Island is a block from the harbor and a 2-minute walk from ferry docks.
The hotel was built down the street from the ferry docks, and porters bring luggage to the hotel from the boats. Most attractions on this car-free island are within walking distance, including Fort Mackinac, which is five minutes on foot, and the Grand Hotel, which is a 10- to 15-minute walk.
