Go to your blog settings on web. Under “Custom Theme” click “Edit Theme” (make sure Custom Theme is toggled on). Click “Browse Themes”. Click on a theme you like to preview it on your blog. If you choose to purchase the theme, click “Purchase”. Enter your credit card information or click to use PayPal in the pop-up
Save a copy of your custom HTML, then re-install the theme from www.tumblr.com/themes. Tips: Clear your browser cache between changes to make sure you’re seeing a current version of your blog.

Customizing your theme: Go to your blog and click “Edit Appearance” (the palette icon at the top right of your screen). This will take you to the theme customization screen. The customization panel at the left-had side of the screen is where you can change the colours and theme options. It looks like this: Page themes:

Installing a theme. Open the “Code” link for a theme and copy all the text on that page (Ctrl/Cmd+A, Ctrl/Cmd+C should get everything). Open the Customize page for your Tumblr blog. At the top of the customization menu, under your theme name, select the “Edit HTML” link:
