Been to New York so many times but never to the Public Library! Check! The New York Public Library (NYPL) on Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street is an iconic institution with tons of historic charm. The lions out front were my favorite. The library's lion statues, named Patience and Fortitude, have been guarding the entrance since 1911.

New York Public Library / Max Touhey. The most notable library in NYC is none other than the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building of the New York Public Library in Midtown.
The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center. The content, and there's an outside terrace with tables and chairs. The newly re-opened Midtown Manhattan Library (now called Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library) may be worth checking out.
