Catholicism has deep historical roots in Southern and Western Europe, particularly in countries like Italy, Spain, and Ireland, while Eastern Orthodoxy has been influential in Eastern European nations such as Greece, Russia, and the Balkans.
A number of countries in Europe have official religions, including Greece (Orthodox), [104] Liechtenstein, [105] Malta, [106] Monaco, [107] the Vatican City (Catholic); [108] Armenia (Apostolic Orthodoxy); Denmark, [109] Iceland (Lutheran); [110] [111] and the United Kingdom (England alone) (Anglican).
