Alameda County encompasses the eastern portion of the South Bay, including cities like Fremont, Hayward, and Union City. Santa Clara County, on the other hand, covers the majority of the South Bay, housing major cities like San Jose, Santa Clara, and Palo Alto.
The South Bay contains sixteen cities plus portions of the City of Los Angeles and unincorporated portions of the county. The area is bounded by the Pacific Ocean on the south and west and generally by the City of Los Angeles on the north and east.
