Mark 6:14 Context. 11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city. 12 And they went out, and preached that men should repent.
Matthew splits the difference and uses "Herod the tetrarch" (Matthew 14:1). John the Baptist preaches in Judea, across the Jordan River from Perea, and Antipas becomes familiar with his message of repentance.
1. (Mark 6:14-16) Herod hears of Jesus’ ministry and is perplexed. Now King Herod heard of Him, for His name had become well known. And he said, “John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.” Others said, “It is Elijah.” And others said, “It is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets.”
15 Ιουλ 2012 · Mark’s Herod was a sympathetic figure, whose public oath became his own demise. In the biblical tradition, oaths were not easily dismissed among Jews. The tension was depicted clearly at the end of 6:26. Finally, Mark’s portrayal of women in this chapter deserves mention.
