Alpha particle mass is due to the two protons and two neutrons bonding. Thus, the Alpha ray nucleus is very similar to the Helium-4 nucleus. Represented by the Greek alphabet α. This article lets us know about alpha particle mass in detail, along with examples.

The proton mass is slightly less than the neutron mass. Mass...

Rutherford proposed three explanations: 1) an alpha particle is a hydrogen molecule (H 2) with a charge of 1 e; 2) an alpha particle is an atom of helium with a charge of 2 e; 3) an alpha particle is half a helium atom with a charge of 1 e.
If all the hydrogen is fully inonized, then the mass of one hydrogen atom (1 amu) would be shared by two particles (the H nucleus and the free electron), and the mean mass per particle would now be 1 amu per 2 particles, or = 0:5.
Alpha particles carry double the positive charge of the proton, i.e., equal to the charge on the Helium nucleus. The mass of an α-particle is four times the mass of a Hydrogen atom, i.e., equivalent to the mass of the Helium atom.
By expressing the mass defect in MeV/c2 (using 1 u = 931.5 MeV/c2), one gets a direct reading of the binding energy in MeV. For example with carbon-12, the mass defect of 0.098931 u converts to 92.15 MeV/c2. This corresponds to a binding energy of. = (92.15 MeV/c2)(c2) = 92.15 MeV.
Hydrogen-bonding forms in liquid water as the hydrogen atoms of one water molecule are attracted towards the oxygen atom of a neighboring water molecule; generally, a proton is shared by two lone electron pairs. In a water molecule (H 2 O), the oxygen nucleus with +8 charges attracts electrons better than the hydrogen nucleus with its +1 charge.
