The Department of Materials Science and Engineering offers an interdisciplinary doctoral program for individuals who wish to consider the study of archaeology and materials science and pursue research in the field of archaeological materials. Admission to the program is through the department.
The undergraduate program, called Course 3 at MIT, will provide you with a comprehensive education in materials science and engineering, exploring the fundamental principles of materials and how they’re used in various industries.
The DMSE faculty is a group of accomplished researchers and educators who drive innovation. With expertise spanning areas such as nanotechnology, computational materials design, and microscopy, they are shaping the future of materials science and engineering.
DMSE offers a rigorous master’s degree program that equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and applications of materials science, enabling them to make significant contributions in fields such as energy, nanotechnology, and advanced manufacturing.
DMSE graduate students can pursue three interdepartmental programs involving academic training and requirements outside the department: Archaeology and Archaeological Materials, Program in Polymers and Soft Matter, Technology and Policy Program, and Computational Science and Engineering.
The Master of Science degree at DMSE is a one-to-two-year program that prepares the graduate for an advanced position in materials science and engineering through lectures and laboratory research.
