Matthew August joined the GCU men's volleyball coaching staff in the summer of 2022 and enters his second season as an assistant coach in 2024. August was part of the Lopes staff that led the team to its winningest season (22-8) and first NCAA tournament appearance in 2023.
Matthew, in just his first season abroad, led his club, Volejbol Brno to a bronze medal finish in the Czech Extraliga while leading the team in blocks, and hitting percentage. After an astounding first season, in the summer of 2020, Matthew signed his 2nd contract overseas with Black Volley Beskydy, also from the Czech Republic.
Former Irvine Valley men's volleyball standout Matt August has been named the head coach at Benedictine Mesa. He was the lead assistant at Grand Canyon University. August was named IVC's male athlete of the year in 2018.

Matt began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant with the University of Denver women's volleyball team, later becoming the first assistant for Grand Canyon University's men's volleyball team.
