Chapter 15 tells 3 stories: A group of Pharisees accuse Jesus of violating Jewish customs. (Verses 1-20) The story of a Gentile woman begging Jesus to heal her daughter. (Verses 21-28) The story of Jesus feeding 4,000 men, plus women and children. (Verses 29-39).
Jesus’ answer to Peter’s request for an explanation of the parable (Matthew 15:17-20) identifies the parable as what Jesus had said about defilement in Matthew 15:11. Jesus again rebuked the disciples for failing to understand what he meant (cf. Matthew 14:31).
