McCulloch County is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. At the 2020 census, its population was 7,630. [1] Its county seat is Brady. [2] The county was created in 1856 and later organized in 1876. [3] It is named for Benjamin McCulloch, a famous Texas Ranger and Confederate general.
1 Φεβ 1995 · McCulloch was on the Red River sixteen miles from Clarksville in northern Red River County. The community was first named Walnut Grove when the post office opened in 1878. When the post office was moved to the general store of J. W. McCulloch in 1891, the name of the settlement was changed to McCulloch.
17 Σεπ 2020 · Extensive settlement of McCulloch County began in the 1870s; most of the growth was from a dispersement of people already living in Texas and the southern United States rather than from an increase in immigration from other countries.
McCulloch County, located in Central Texas, is surrounded by San Saba County to the east, Mason County to the south, Menard County to the southwest, and Concho County to the west. The Colorado River separates McCulloch County from Coleman County to the north and Brown County to the northeast.

Named for Texas hero, Ben McCulloch, who fought in Texas Revolution, Indian, Mexican and Civil Wars. Indian and frontier hazards made growth slow and 20 years passed before buffalo were hunted off and ranches established.
