12 Δεκ 2020 · I have heard a mix bag of reviews on the McGowen barrels. I ordered one last year simply because of the lead times on when I needed it. I have been able to work up loads in that 3/4 MOA range without a ton of trouble. My question is, are the Shilen, Benchmark, Brux etc. that much better than the McGowen? Will it be that noticeable of a difference?

30 Μαΐ 2019 · I rarely "deep clean" a barrel unless accuracy fall offs before expected barrel life. Usually do a cabron cleaner around 1000 rounds but it change depending on powder. Example: carbon builds up faster with RL16 and StaBall 6.5 vs H4360 in a 6.5cm.
9 Δεκ 2020 · My McGowen barrels sparkle with perfection - no horrible tool marks. Please allow me to respectfully submit a suggestion - go with a .280 AI, same bolt face, same magazine. Enlargement of bolt face & extractor modification would not be needed.
30 Σεπ 2022 · I have a McGowen 260 barrel on a Rem 700 right now and have had 2 on XP-100s in the past. I have yet to find a load the 260 doesn't like. That being said, I am not looking for BR accuracy, but everything from 120s to 143s have shot below or just over 1". The XPs also shot great.
25 Νοε 2014 · Perhaps you can find a gunsmith fitting McGowen barrels to actions that will guarantee the precision you desire. Custom rifle gunsmith's using Krieger, Bartlein, Brux, and Lilja barrels will commonly guarantee that their completed rifles will shoot 1/2moa 3-shot groups.
1 Ιουν 2008 · I shot this group from the prone w/ bipod and squeeze bag support, in the grass/ gravel behind the 100 yd walkway on our range at work. The rifle is a Savage 116SS action, the McGowen barrel, B&C Duramaxx stock,bedded), Nikon BM 4.5-14x42 SFMD, and Harris bipod.
