30 Μαΐ 2019 · My experience is very similar when comparing the McGowen that I just installed versus the high quality (and considerably more costly) cut rifled barrel (name of manufacturer excluded intentionally because the barrel does perform well and the company is great) that I had a local gunsmith install on a 700 action that I also had him true.
30 Σεπ 2022 · take a look at what the pros use for prs, or what the top gunsmiths/custom builders in the country are spinning up, and you'll find zero mention of mcgowen. IMO, they're a replacement barrel, like a pacnor, not a custom barrel like a bartlien, kreiger, lilja, etc. That's not completely accurate.
12 Δεκ 2020 · I have heard a mix bag of reviews on the McGowen barrels. I ordered one last year simply because of the lead times on when I needed it. I have been able to work up loads in that 3/4 MOA range without a ton of trouble. My question is, are the Shilen, Benchmark, Brux etc. that much better than the McGowen? Will it be that noticeable of a difference?
23 Ιουν 2019 · I had McGowen duplicate the contour of a Ruger M77 RL Ultralight and fit it to my action in 260 Rem with an 8 twist. It has shown better accuracy than I have a right to expect from such a soda straw thin barrel. And their workmanship was exceptional. I would absolutely use them again.
I have a mcgowan on my 300wm. As others have said, reviews show that mcgowen in the past was hit or miss on quality. If i remember my research correctly, i had found an ownership change sometime around 2010-2014. My order was in 2017. Got the barrel screwed on using their barrel nut and it shoots great. 1.
23 Νοε 2010 · A contoured McGowan CM barrel is $185, the same Shilen barrel is $200 and from Krieger is $285. Spend the extra money and you don't have to worry about getting a bad one. I've had very good results with Shilen barrels and no one (or not many) have ever had a bad barrel from Krieger.
12 Δεκ 2022 · Ordered a 22 creed barrel in 7 twist, barrel shows up marked 8 twist. Call up McGowen to see what’s up, dude acts like it’s no big deal and says the barrel is indeed 7 twist because that’s what the computer shows.
